Education is very important. Study after study tells us that the better an education, the better chance a person has at having professional success.
Education, however, is not just sitting in a classroom, listening to a lecture. Some of the best education out there happens on a job site. It happens when a parent teaches their teenage child how to change oil. It happens when a teenager teaches their grandparents how to use Facebook for the first time. Not all learning happens in the classroom.
I believe whole heartedly that parents and guardians know their children better than anybody else. They know their children better than the teachers. They know their children better than bureaucrats. They know their children better than legislators. They know their children better than school administrators! I believe that as such, parents should have the decision on what style of education would best suit their children to reach their full God-given potential. Maybe that is the local public school. Maybe that is a nearby public school. Maybe that is a private school. Maybe that is STEM learning. Maybe that is home school, and perhaps it is online learning. No matter which way it is, I believe that it should be up to the parents to decide what educational opportunities are best suited for their children.
As a parent with two children in the public school system, education is something that is personal to me. My two children are not data points on a spreadsheet. They are personal.
Agree with me? Disagree with me? Either way is fine – let me know and I will be glad to listen to what you have to say!
